If you are about to renew your contract and you are not going for any of the available sim only deals you might be wondering what to do with your old handset. There is a range of possibilities in this area: you might keep it as a spare, throw it away, recycle it or even donate it.
This last option is an easy, useful way to participate positively in a charitable cause. There are multiple organisations who collect and distribute old mobile phones to various communities across the world, and finding one of these to help is really only a click away.
Once you have found a suitable charity in which to donate your phone, you will want to check the handset to make sure that it remains usable. There is little point in sending off a broken mobile; it will simply be thrown away.
Check to make sure that everything still works, and if it does, get to work getting rid of all identifying information from the phone's memory. This involves deleting contacts that might be saved on the phone, along with photographs, songs, ring tones, text messages and emails. Remember to remove your sim card as well.
Once this is done, put your phone together with its charger and send it to the appropriate address. In no time at all, your old handset will be put to good use by someone who really needs it.
