Facebook is the most popular social networking site on the planet and one of the most popular addresses on the internet. Each day, more than one-hundred and fifty million members logon to the site. Attracted by these massive numbers, internet criminals closely monitor Facebook.com and attempt to steal passwords and much more.
Why would anyone want to logon to your Facebook account? The number one reason is to obtain personal information that might make it easier for them to scam or even blackmail people.
Fortunately, Facebook login has added a slew of new security features that were specifically designed to conceal information from these online predators. Most of these features are optional and members can choose which of them they would like to enable.
For example, a member can ask to be notified by email whenever his account is accessed by a computer or a phone that he has never used. This option is currently available under the account security heading of the account settings bar. A brand new feature gives users the option of being notified by text message.
The popular site also has plans to add an additional layer of security that will actually monitor suspicious or unusual activity on each account. This is especially impressive since Facebook has over four-hundred million individual accounts. But as we were saying, this new security system will keep a close eye on things like simultaneous log-ins from different locations. All changes are scheduled to go into effect by Autumn 2010.
